Gold Coast Show Day – Clinic Closure & Where to Get Care

By Uncategorised

The Gold Coast Show is almost here, and while we’ll be taking the day to enjoy the celebrations, we want to make sure our patients know exactly where to turn if they need medical help while our clinic is closed.

Her Medical will be closed on Gold Coast Show Day – [insert date]. We’ll reopen for our normal hours the following day.

If You Need Urgent Care

If you have a medical emergency, please call 000 or head directly to:

Gold Coast University Hospital – Emergency Department
1 Hospital Boulevard, Southport QLD 4215

This is your nearest emergency department and is open 24/7 for life-threatening or serious medical issues.

For Other Urgent, Non-Life-Threatening Issues

If it’s urgent but not an emergency, you can attend an acute care facility. These clinics are equipped to handle a range of immediate health concerns without the long wait times often found in emergency departments.

After-Hours Care

We understand that health needs don’t always stick to business hours. After-hours medical services are available (fees apply) and can provide care for urgent but non-emergency situations when our clinic is closed.

A Note on Our Fee Update: Why It’s Changing and What It Means for You

By Fees

At Her Medical, our mission has always been to provide high-quality, evidence-based healthcare for women—delivered with compassion, time, and attention.

From 1 July 2025, we will be updating our consultation fees to reflect the growing costs of running a modern, patient-centred practice. This ensures we can continue to offer the standard of care you deserve, while investing in experienced clinicians, ongoing training, longer appointment times, and state-of-the-art facilities.

Here are the updated fees:

  • Standard Consultation (up to 20 minutes)$115.00

  • Standard Weekend Consultation (up to 20 minutes)$130.00

  • Antenatal Consultation$125.00

We understand that fee changes can raise questions. We want to reassure you that we continue to offer Medicare rebates for eligible consultations, and our team can assist you with processing your claim on the day. If you’re unsure what your out-of-pocket cost will be, our reception team is happy to help.

Thank you for your continued trust in our care. We’re proud to provide a women’s health service that values your time, your story, and your wellbeing.Fees And Changes Concept Pink Blocks On Orange Background, Financial Costs, Business Illustration.

A New Chapter in Weight and Metabolic Health at Her Medical: Dr Vladana O’Neill is Now SCOPE Certified

By Obesity

Euro Summer Vaccines (1)

At Her Medical, we believe in staying ahead of the curve when it comes to women’s health. That’s why we’re proud to announce that Dr Vladana O’Neill is now SCOPE Certified by the World Obesity Federation – a globally recognised accreditation in the field of obesity care.

But what does this mean for you as a patient?

Let’s break it down.

What Is SCOPE Certification?

SCOPE stands for Specialist Certification of Obesity Professional Education. It’s the only internationally recognised qualification in obesity management for healthcare professionals. Developed by the World Obesity Federation, it equips doctors with the most up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies to treat overweight and obesity as complex, chronic medical conditions—not just lifestyle issues.

This is not a quick online course or a one-day seminar. SCOPE Certification requires extensive training, assessment, and continued professional development in the latest research and management approaches.

Why Does It Matter?

Obesity is one of the most misunderstood and stigmatised conditions in medicine. It’s often oversimplified – reduced to willpower or diet alone – when in reality, it’s a multifaceted condition influenced by genetics, hormones, environment, mental health, medications, and more.

Dr O’Neill’s certification means she has the tools, knowledge, and credibility to take a medical approach to weight and metabolic health. This includes:

  • A deep understanding of the biological drivers of weight gain

  • Evidence-based approaches to weight management – including medications, hormonal influences, nutritional strategies, and behavioural support

  • Expertise in related conditions such as insulin resistance, PCOS, metabolic syndrome, and perimenopausal weight gain

  • A non-judgemental, personalised approach to your health journey

What Can You Expect in a Consultation?

Dr O’Neill offers compassionate, science-based care that moves beyond fad diets and one-size-fits-all advice. She works with each patient to explore their full health history, current lifestyle, and medical background before developing a tailored plan.

This might include:

  • Investigating underlying hormonal or metabolic issues

  • Discussing medication options (including newly available weight-loss treatments)

  • Collaborating with dietitians, psychologists, and other specialists

  • Setting realistic goals and providing ongoing support

All consultations are conducted in a supportive, respectful environment. We know weight can be a sensitive topic – and you will never be blamed, shamed, or rushed.

Who Is This For?

Women of all ages may benefit from this specialised care – especially those who:

  • Have struggled with weight gain that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise

  • Are experiencing changes in weight during menopause or due to hormonal shifts

  • Have insulin resistance, PCOS, thyroid issues, or metabolic concerns

  • Want to explore safe, medical options for weight management under expert guidance

The Her Medical Difference

We understand that weight and health are deeply personal and often intertwined. Dr O’Neill’s SCOPE Certification reinforces our commitment to offering best-practice, compassionate healthcare for women – with no judgement, no gimmicks, and no quick fixes.

If you’re ready for a fresh approach to your weight and metabolic health, you’re not alone – and you’re in safe hands.

Investing in Your Health: Updated Fees for Dietitian Consultations with Gemma

By Diet

Gemma Campbell Dietitian Fee Increase July 2025

From 1 July 2025, Gemma will be adjusting her consultation fees to $95 for standard appointments across all locations. Initial consultations will remain at $150.

Gemma sets her own fees independently, and this change reflects the ongoing value she provides through her personalised, evidence-based approach to nutrition and wellbeing. Whether you’re navigating complex dietary needs, working through health challenges, or simply looking to optimise your lifestyle, her support can be a game-changer.

Dietitian services are an incredibly worthwhile investment — often saving time, stress, and long-term health costs. Gemma brings extensive experience and a practical, compassionate touch to every session.

If your appointment is scheduled for 1 July or later, the updated fee will apply — even if your booking was made prior to this change.

For any questions about fees or to check if you’re eligible for Medicare or private health rebates, feel free to reach out to reception.

We’ve Been Reaccredited — Again.

By Accreditation

Prepare A Gp Chronic Condition Management Plan – Face To Face (1)

Her Medical has just completed our three-yearly AGPAL reaccreditation. No fanfare, no champagne. Just another reminder that we run a tight ship.

For context: AGPAL (Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited) checks that general practices are meeting the RACGP’s national standards — the baseline for quality and safety in Australian healthcare.

Reaccreditation is mandatory if you want to operate at a certain standard. We don’t treat it like a trophy — we treat it like routine maintenance.

What gets checked?
Pretty much everything that matters behind the scenes:
– Infection control
– Emergency procedures
– Staff training
– Privacy and data handling
– Equipment and vaccine storage
– Clinical governance

We passed — as expected.

Why share this?
Because transparency matters. We want our patients to know that what happens behind the consultation room door is backed by proper systems, not guesswork. Reaccreditation doesn’t change how we operate — it confirms it.

Social Egg Freezing Information Evening

By Fertility

Guest PresentersHer Medical is pleased to be hosting a dedicated Social Egg Freezing Information Evening — designed to answer the most common questions we hear from women in our community who are exploring their fertility options.

This event is being delivered by the team from the Centre of Reproductive Medicine, powered by the leading science of Monash IVF, and reflects the growing interest among our patients to understand more about fertility preservation.

To express your interest in attending, please phone 5519 1616.

This is not a Her Medical service offering, but one we are proud to facilitate by bringing together trusted experts in the field — in a setting that feels familiar and supportive.

Why are more women considering egg freezing?
Many women today are choosing to preserve their fertility for a wide range of reasons:

Focusing on career, education, or travel

Waiting for the right partner rather than settling

Wanting financial independence before starting a family

Choosing to stay single or live life on their own terms

Planning for the future and wanting options

For most, egg freezing isn’t about certainty — it’s about choice. It’s a way of taking control of your reproductive timeline, giving yourself more flexibility and peace of mind.

What to expect on the evening:
A clear explanation of how egg freezing works and who it’s suited for

Insights into timelines, medical steps, and realistic outcomes

Discussions around emotional and financial considerations

Open Q&A with expert fertility specialists

A supportive, respectful space to ask questions and gather information

The evening will be led by:

Dr Kee Ong, founder of the Centre of Reproductive Medicine and Medical Director of Monash IVF Gold Coast

Dr Miriam Lee, the first female gynaecologist on the Gold Coast to focus exclusively on fertility and reproductive health

Why we’re hosting this event
As a women’s health clinic, we’ve seen a growing number of patients ask about egg freezing — not necessarily because they’re ready to proceed, but because they want to understand their options.

This information evening is our way of supporting those questions by providing access to trusted fertility specialists in a calm, informative setting.

While Her Medical is not providing egg freezing services, we are committed to helping women access the care and guidance they need to make informed decisions.

To register your interest, please call 5519 1616.
There is no pressure, no commitment — just an opportunity to explore, learn, and plan with confidence.

We’re an Accredited General Practice – Here’s Why That Matters

By Accreditation

Agpal Accredited Symbol Png

At Her Medical, we’re proud to be an accredited general practice. But what does that actually mean for you as a patient?

Accreditation isn’t just a fancy title — it’s an independent recognition that we’re meeting (and aiming to exceed) the high standards set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). These standards cover everything from patient safety and privacy, to clinical care, communication, infection control, and continuous improvement.

In simple terms? It means you can feel confident knowing that your care is being delivered in a practice that’s serious about quality, professionalism and accountability.

What does accreditation involve?
To maintain our accreditation, our systems, processes and services are regularly reviewed by external assessors. It’s a rigorous process that holds us accountable to best-practice standards and ensures we’re always looking for ways to do better.

We’re assessed on things like:

  • Patient confidentiality and privacy

  • Safe storage and handling of medications

  • Hygiene and sterilisation procedures

  • Emergency preparedness

  • Staff qualifications and ongoing education

  • Clear communication and respectful care

Why should patients care about accreditation?
Because your health deserves nothing less. Accreditation means we’re not just “ticking boxes” — we’re investing in the quality of your care, the safety of our environment, and the professionalism of every person you interact with.

When you walk into an accredited practice, you’re choosing a clinic that values transparency, safety, and up-to-date medical care. It’s our commitment to you — and to ourselves — that we’ll continue to provide high-quality healthcare in a setting you can trust.

Still have questions?
We’re always happy to chat about how our accreditation supports the care we deliver. Just ask one of our team members or your doctor next time you’re in.

Labour Day Long Weekend Closure

By Clinic Hours

At Her Medical, we are proud to support the spirit of Labour Day – a day that honours the achievements of the working people who fought for fairer conditions, shorter work hours, and better rights for all.

To mark the occasion and to uphold the very principles that Labour Day celebrates, our clinic will be closed on Saturday, 3 May and Monday, 5 May 2025.

Yes, there’s a little irony in closing to support work-life balance – but we believe it’s important that our team has the opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time with family and friends. After all, caring for others starts with caring for ourselves.

Our usual clinic hours will resume from Tuesday, 6 May 2025.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing long weekend.
