Important immunisation clinic changes

By Childhood Immunisations

Clinic Changes (1)

Today, we have an important update regarding the services we offer, particularly concerning childhood immunisations. We understand that this news may come as a surprise, so we want to take this opportunity to explain the reasoning behind our decision and provide alternative options for accessing these vital healthcare services.

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to no longer stock the full suite of childhood vaccinations at our clinic. However, please rest assured that those who have pre-booked vaccinations will be honored. Additionally, we will continue to offer the Bexsero and forthcoming RSV vaccine to ensure the health and wellbeing of our pediatric patients is maintained.

One of the primary reasons for this change is the capacity constraints within our clinic. Currently, we are unable to simultaneously address women’s specific health complaints and provide vaccinations. Our nursing staff are dedicated to delivering essential women’s health procedures, such as IUD insertions, which require significant time and attention. As a result, our nurses are booked solidly, leaving limited availability to accommodate the patient load requiring childhood immunisations.

We understand the importance of vaccinations in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of children and the broader community. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that alternative options are readily available for our patients. Gold Coast residents, including children, can still receive vaccinations at free family-friendly community immunisation clinics operated by Gold Coast Public Health.

These community clinics offer a convenient way to access vaccinations without the need for appointments. Simply produce your Medicare card and your or your child’s vaccination record or personal health record, and you will be able to receive the necessary vaccinations.

We want to reassure you that despite this change, we remain your chosen healthcare partner for your child. We are committed to continuing to offer the highest level of care to our pediatric patients, and we appreciate your trust in us.

We recognise that this change may cause inconvenience for some of our patients, and for that, we apologise. However, we believe that by redirecting our resources, we can better serve the evolving healthcare needs of our broader community.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this update, please do not hesitate to reach out to our clinic manager via email to manager@hermedical.com.au

We are here to support you every step of the way.

Thank you for your continued trust in us as your healthcare provider.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

In the intricate landscape of wellness, one area that has gained considerable attention in recent years is gut health. Deep within our digestive system lies a bustling community of microorganisms collectively known as the microbiome. This complex ecosystem plays a crucial role in not just digestion, but also in influencing various aspects of our overall health and well-being.

Understanding the microbiome is akin to unlocking a treasure trove of health benefits. Here’s a closer look at why it’s essential to delve into this fascinating realm:

Digestive Harmony: At the forefront of gut health lies digestion. The microbiome aids in breaking down food, extracting nutrients, and ensuring smooth passage through the digestive tract. A balanced microbiome fosters efficient digestion, reducing the likelihood of gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea.

Immune Support: Surprisingly, a significant portion of our immune system resides in the gut. The microbiome acts as a sentinel, discerning between harmless and harmful substances. By maintaining a diverse and thriving microbial community, we bolster our immune defences, potentially reducing the risk of infections and autoimmune disorders.

Mood and Mental Well-being: The gut-brain connection is a burgeoning field of research, highlighting the intricate link between our digestive system and mental health. The microbiome produces neurotransmitters and interacts with the central nervous system, influencing mood, cognition, and stress responses. Nurturing a healthy microbiome may contribute to better mental well-being and a more balanced emotional state.

Weight Management: Emerging evidence suggests that the composition of the microbiome could impact weight regulation. Certain species of gut bacteria are associated with lean body mass, while others may contribute to weight gain and obesity. By fostering a diverse microbial ecosystem, individuals may potentially support their weight management efforts.

Nutrient Absorption: Beyond simply digesting food, the microbiome also aids in the absorption of essential nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. A healthy gut microbiome ensures optimal nutrient uptake, which is vital for sustaining energy levels, supporting cellular function, and promoting overall vitality.

Inflammation Control: Chronic inflammation is a precursor to numerous health conditions, ranging from cardiovascular disease to inflammatory bowel disorders. The microbiome plays a pivotal role in modulating inflammation within the body. By promoting a balanced microbial environment, individuals may mitigate excessive inflammation and reduce the risk of inflammatory-related ailments.

Personalised Wellness: One of the most intriguing aspects of understanding the microbiome is its individuality. Each person harbours a unique microbial fingerprint shaped by factors such as diet, lifestyle, genetics, and environment.

In essence, delving into the realm of gut health and understanding the intricacies of the microbiome holds immense potential for enhancing overall health and well-being. By nurturing a diverse and balanced microbial community, individuals can pave the way towards a healthier, happier life—one microbe at a time.Title

These two skincare essentials can work wonders for your skin, helping you achieve a brighter, more even complexion while addressing issues like sunspots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Vitamin C: Your Sun-Damage Defender

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, playing a vital role in neutralizing the harmful free radicals generated by sun exposure. By incorporating vitamin C into your routine, you can fade sunspots, hyperpigmentation, and achieve a more radiant and even skin tone. This superhero ingredient is available in the form of serums or creams containing stable variants like L-ascorbic acid or ferulic acid, ensuring maximum effectiveness.

The Winning Combination

Introduction: Menopause is a significant stage in a woman’s life, and it’s a journey that unfolds in three distinct phases. Each stage brings its own challenges and unique experiences. In this blog, we’ll explore the pre-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause phases, offering insights and guidance for a smoother transition.

Pre-Menopause: Embracing Change The pre-menopause phase, often referred to as perimenopause, can begin as early as your 30s or 40s. During this stage, hormonal shifts become noticeable, and you may experience irregular periods, mood swings, and other symptoms. It’s essential to:

  • Embrace lifestyle changes: Prioritize a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management.
  • Seek support: Talk to friends, family, or healthcare professionals for emotional support and guidance.
  • Educate yourself: Understanding the process can help you prepare mentally and emotionally.

Menopause: A New Beginning Menopause itself is marked by the absence of menstruation for 12 consecutive months. It typically occurs around the age of 50. Key considerations during this phase include:

  • Symptom management: Hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances can be managed through lifestyle adjustments and, if needed, hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
  • Embracing the positives: Many women find that menopause brings a newfound sense of freedom and self-discovery.
  • Self-care: Continue prioritizing your health through regular check-ups, bone health, and mental well-being.

Post-Menopause: Thriving Beyond Post-menopause is the phase after menopause has been established. It’s a time to embrace life and focus on your well-being. Here are some tips:

  • Health vigilance: Regular health check-ups, particularly bone density scans, remain important.
  • Embrace your wisdom: This is a time to cherish the knowledge and experiences gained throughout your journey.
  • Rekindle passions: Explore new interests and revive old hobbies.

Conclusion: The menopause journey is a transformative experience, and each phase has its unique challenges and rewards. By staying informed, seeking support, and prioritizing self-care, you can navigate this journey with grace and resilience. “Everything You Need to Know About IUD Insertion”

By Contraceptive

Leaves And Flowers Arranged In Shape Of Female Uterus On Pink Background.

What is an IUD?

An Intrauterine Device (IUD), commonly known as a “coil” in Australia, is a small, T-shaped contraceptive device that is inserted into a woman’s uterus to prevent pregnancy. There are two main types of IUDs available:

  1. Hormonal IUD : This type of IUD releases a low dose of a hormone called progestin into the uterus. It works by thickening the cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach and fertilize an egg. Hormonal IUDs can provide effective contraception for up to 3-5 years, depending on the specific brand.
  2. Copper IUD : A copper IUD is a non-hormonal contraceptive option. It contains copper wire wrapped around the device, which creates an inflammatory response in the uterus, making it inhospitable for sperm. Copper IUDs can provide contraception for up to 10 years.

Benefits of choosing an IUD:

  • Long-Lasting Protection: IUDs offer a long-term contraceptive solution, reducing the need for frequent contraception management.
  • High Effectiveness: IUDs are among the most effective forms of birth control, with a very low failure rate.
  • Reversible: They can be easily removed by your doctor when a person decides to become pregnant or switch to a different contraceptive method.
  • Minimal User Responsibility: Once inserted, IUDs require minimal daily maintenance, making them convenient for those with busy lifestyles.
  • Hormonal and Non-Hormonal Options: Individuals can choose between hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs based on their preferences and medical needs.

Overall, IUDs are a reliable and versatile contraceptive option that can provide peace of mind and freedom from unplanned pregnancies.

Preparing for your IUD Insertion.

  1. Timing: The timing of the IUD insertion is crucial. It’s typically recommended to have the IUD inserted during your menstrual period. This ensures that you are not pregnant, and the cervix is slightly more open, which can make the insertion process more comfortable.
  2. Pain Management: Depending on your pain tolerance and the doctor’s recommendations, you may want to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, about 30-60 minutes before your appointment. This can help reduce discomfort during and after the procedure.
  3. Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask your doctor any questions or share any concerns you may have about the procedure, potential side effects, or aftercare. They can provide you with detailed information to ease any anxiety.
  4. Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose and comfortable clothing to your appointment, as this can make the procedure and recovery more comfortable.
  5. Empty Bladder: Before the procedure, it’s a good idea to empty your bladder. This can make the insertion process smoother.
  6. Consent: Be prepared to provide informed consent for the IUD insertion, indicating that you understand the procedure, its potential risks, and benefits.

Arrange a medication review and “Eliminate medication confusion”!

By Medication, Preventative health

A Home Medication Review (HMR) is a service provided under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) that aims to optimize medication management and promote safe and effective use of medications for individuals living in their own homes. The HMR is designed to help patients, particularly older adults or those with complex medication regimens, to better understand and manage their medications to achieve better health outcomes.

Female Doctor Hand Holding Pack Of Different Tablet Blisters

Here are the key features of an Australian Home Medication Review:

  1. Eligibility: To be eligible for an HMR, the patient must be living in their own home, community setting, or an aged care facility, and they should have complex medication needs, taking multiple medications for chronic conditions.
  2. Qualified Pharmacist: An accredited and qualified pharmacist conducts the Home Medication Review. They have specialized training in medication management and are authorized to perform medication reviews under the MBS.
  3. Home Visit: The pharmacist visits the patient’s home or aged care facility to conduct a comprehensive review of their medications. During the visit, the pharmacist assesses the patient’s medical history, current medications, and any medication-related issues.
  4. Medication Review: The pharmacist evaluates the appropriateness of the patient’s medications, potential drug interactions, dosage regimens, and adherence to the prescribed treatment. They also assess whether any medications are causing adverse effects or need adjustments.
  5. Patient Consultation: The pharmacist discusses their findings with the patient (and their carer, if applicable) during the home visit. They provide education and counseling about their medications, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to treatment.
  6. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: The pharmacist communicates their recommendations to the patient’s healthcare team, including the patient’s General Practitioner (GP) and other relevant healthcare providers.
  7. Medication Management Plan: Based on the assessment, the pharmacist develops a medication management plan with specific recommendations to address any issues identified during the review.
  8. Follow-Up: After the Home Medication Review, the pharmacist may conduct follow-up visits or phone calls to monitor the patient’s progress, ensure adherence to the medication management plan, and address any additional concerns.
  9. Medicare Rebates: HMRs are fully funded by the Australian Government through Medicare. The patient does not have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses for this service.

The Australian Home Medication Review is an essential service that helps improve medication safety and management for individuals with complex medication needs. It supports patients in understanding their medications better and empowers them to take an active role in their health and well-being. The collaborative approach involving pharmacists, patients, and healthcare providers helps optimize medication therapy and reduce the risk of medication-related problems.
