26.01.2025 Australia Day Holiday Public Holiday 27th Australia Day, observed on January 26th, is a time of national pride for many, marked by celebrations and community events. However, for Indigenous Australians, it symbolises the beginning of colonisation, loss, and ongoing struggles. Often referred to as "Invasion Day" or "Survival Day," it is a reminder of historical injustices and the need for recognition and reconciliation. The debate over the date continues, with calls to find a more inclusive alternative. While some Australians believe the date should remain unchanged, others advocate for a day that unites rather than divides. Regardless of stance, it is important to acknowledge different perspectives, listen to First Nations voices, and engage in meaningful conversations about history and identity. Respect and understanding on Australia Day can be shown through learning about Indigenous history, supporting cultural events, and fostering dialogue. Recognising the complexities of the day can help build a more inclusive and united future for all Australians.

February

Date Event Details
04.02.2025 World Cancer Day World Cancer Day, observed on February 4th, raises awareness about cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. For women, this day highlights critical health issues such as breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer—diseases that impact thousands of lives each year. Regular screenings, self-examinations, and early detection are key to improving outcomes. Raising awareness about symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures empowers women to take charge of their health. Advocacy also plays a crucial role in ensuring access to healthcare, research funding, and support services. On this day, women are encouraged to prioritise their health, support one another, and promote education on cancer prevention. By fostering conversations and breaking stigmas, we can work towards better outcomes and a future where fewer women face the devastating effects of cancer.
14.02.2025 Wear Red Day Wear Red Day, observed on February 14th, is dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among women. Often perceived as a men’s health issue, heart disease and stroke impact thousands of women each year, with many cases going undiagnosed due to different symptoms in women compared to men. This day encourages women to take proactive steps toward heart health, such as regular check-ups, maintaining a balanced diet, exercising, and managing stress. Wearing red is a symbol of support and a reminder that women’s heart health deserves attention and action. By spreading awareness and supporting research, we can help reduce the number of women affected by heart disease and ensure more women receive early diagnoses and effective treatment.
18.02.2025 International Asperger's Day International Asperger’s Day, observed on February 18th, raises awareness about Asperger’s Syndrome and the broader autism spectrum. It highlights the unique strengths and challenges of individuals with Asperger’s and promotes a more inclusive society. Women and girls with Asperger’s are often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to differing symptoms and social expectations. Increased awareness can help improve early diagnosis, access to support, and understanding of neurodiverse experiences. On this day, we can support those with Asperger’s by advocating for workplace inclusivity, promoting education on neurodiversity, and fostering environments where individuals feel valued and understood. Recognising and celebrating different ways of thinking enriches our communities and strengthens the push for broader acceptance and inclusion.
26.02.2025 Teal Ribbon Day Teal Ribbon Day is a time to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, a silent but deadly disease affecting many Australian women. Unlike other cancers, there is no early detection test for ovarian cancer, making awareness and symptom recognition crucial. Symptoms can be vague—bloating, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly, and changes in bowel habits—often mistaken for less serious conditions. At Her Medical, we encourage women to listen to their bodies, stay informed, and seek medical advice if symptoms persist. Early detection saves lives, and ongoing research is essential to improve diagnosis and treatment options.

08.03.2025 International Womens Day International Women's Day is about celebrating women's achievements, but it’s also an important reminder to prioritise our health. Women often put the needs of others before their own, neglecting routine check-ups, mental health, and self-care. This year, let's embrace the theme of empowerment through health—whether it’s booking that overdue Pap smear, checking in on mental wellbeing, or simply taking a moment to focus on self-care. At Her Medical, we’re committed to supporting women at every stage of their health journey. Because when women thrive, families and communities do too.
13.03.2025 Coeliac Awareness Day Coeliac disease is more than just a food intolerance—it’s an autoimmune condition that disproportionately affects women. Fatigue, bloating, anaemia, and fertility issues can all be linked to undiagnosed coeliac disease. Many women suffer for years before receiving a proper diagnosis. At Her Medical, we advocate for increased awareness and early testing, particularly for women experiencing unexplained symptoms. A strict gluten-free diet is the only treatment, but with the right support, women with coeliac disease can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
14.03.2025 World Sleep Day Sleep is the foundation of good health, yet women often struggle with insomnia, disrupted sleep due to hormones, or the demands of motherhood. Conditions such as perimenopause, pregnancy, and postnatal recovery can significantly impact sleep quality. This World Sleep Day, we encourage women to prioritise rest as an essential part of self-care. If poor sleep is affecting your mood, energy, or overall health, it’s time to seek support. Good sleep isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity for physical and mental wellbeing.
25.03.2025 Purple Day for Epilepsy Epilepsy affects both men and women, but the condition can present unique challenges for women due to hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, and menopause. Some women experience catamenial epilepsy, where seizures are linked to their menstrual cycle. Managing epilepsy as a woman requires a tailored approach, particularly when considering contraception and pregnancy planning. At Her Medical, we support women in navigating these complexities with evidence-based care and compassionate guidance.

07.04.2025 World Health Day Women’s health is the backbone of strong families and communities. Yet, gender disparities in healthcare persist globally, from limited access to reproductive healthcare to higher rates of undiagnosed conditions like heart disease in women. World Health Day is a reminder to prioritise women’s health—whether through advocacy, routine check-ups, or simply encouraging the women in our lives to take their health seriously. A healthier world starts with healthier women.
11.04.2025 World Parkinsons Day Parkinson’s disease is often associated with men, yet women experience unique challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Studies show women are less likely to be diagnosed early and often face differences in symptom progression. Hormonal changes throughout life may also play a role in how the disease manifests in women. Raising awareness ensures women receive timely diagnoses and appropriate treatment. Her Medical stands with women affected by Parkinson’s, advocating for better understanding and support.
18.04.2025 Good Friday Easter Break Her Medical will be closed for the Easter break from Good Friday through to Tuesday, April 22nd. This time of year is often a chance for families to rest and recharge, but it's also a great opportunity for women to reflect on their health and wellbeing. If you need a prescription refill or have any upcoming health concerns, please ensure your appointments are scheduled before the break. We wish all our patients a safe and restful Easter.
25.04.2025 Anzac Day Holiday On ANZAC Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served, including the often-overlooked contributions of women. From frontline nurses in wartime to the women holding families together at home, their resilience deserves recognition. Women’s health has historically been shaped by their roles in service, and today, we continue to support the physical and mental wellbeing of female veterans and their families. Lest we forget.
